After a fulfilling career as an architect and landscape architect Andrew Blyth's passion for art decided him to devote himself fully to painting. Watercolour was his chosen medium and his aim was to develop an aesthetic which moved away from an 'architectural' rendering in favour of a looser expressive technique nevertheless reflecting a structured composition as its base.
Andrew Blyth's painting is concerned with developing a dynamic balance between the factual elements of the subject and free-flowing spontaneous rendering full of light and atmosphere. He believes that watercolour is an ideal medium for creating subtle and unified compositions having a full range of tone, colour and texture. It also can be expressive of movement.
Andrew is inspired by the landscapes around his home town Rye and is a frequent visitor to London where he owns a Gallery at Hampton Court . He has exhibited with the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolour and the Royal Institute of Marine Artists. At the Mall Gallery, London. He has exhibited with RSA since 2007 and became a full member in 2011.
